Thames Hospital provides a broad General Medicine service to a population of 60,000 people. This includes a 40 bed inpatient unit offering acute care of heart attack and stroke patients, and care of patients in our High Acuity Unit. In addition we provide rehabilitation care, palliative care and a range of clinical procedures alongside the usual range of in-patient general medicine. We strive for a relaxed professionalism and strong interdisciplinary working. In-patient numbers are generally 30-40 between 3 SMOs and 3-4 RMOs.
We provide an excellent general medical training environment for SHOs, with a smaller tight team and frequent direct working with consultants giving you the opportunity to advance your clinical skills and procedural skills under close supervision. Clinical supervision is provided by General physicians, and Rural Hospital Medicine specialists.

**The afterhours roster includes evening and weekends, but there are NO night shifts.**
Thames is a coastal town known as the gateway to the Coromandel Peninsula. There is easy access to native bush with world class walks, tramps and surf beaches in this popular recreational area.
