We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated Solicitor to join our Corporate and Registries team for 12 months
The Corporate & Registries team provides general legal advice to all of MBIE’s operations, including in relation to MBIE’s 17 different regulatory systems and on governance, integrity and conduct matters that touch the organisation.
Specifically, this role provides general legal advice to MBIE’s regulatory systems as well as providing advice in relation to policy and legislative processes, and liaison with key stakeholders. It will support the development of the regulatory regime for Offshore Renewables as well as Gene technology regulation and the subsequent operationalisation of these regimes. These workstreams are Government priorities.
In this role you will work with other in-house counsel providing high quality and timely advice on a wide range of legal issues. You will need to be technically proficient, agile, adaptable and a strong communicator.

**To be successful in this role you will have the following**:
- A current New Zealand practising certificate and over three years’ PQE
- A good knowledge of public law
- Sound legal technical skills
- Well-developed written and verbal communication abilities, which allow you to convey key ideas and issues in a way that is suitable to the audience
- A keen interest in the political decision-making process, especially in the Parliamentary process
- The ability to deliver successful outcomes in a demanding environment
- Sound relationship management skills and an ability to work well with others
- Enthusiasm, drive and a proactive nature
- Experience working in relation to one or more of MBIE’s 17 regulatory systems would be an advantage
