**Mō tēnei tūranga | About this role**

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced early childhood professional to join our team in the Bay of Plenty-Waiariki region.

Senior Education Advisors take a lead role in the administration of early childhood education (ECE) regulations including licensing, certification of ECE services, monitoring of compliance, implementation of student participation initiatives, and providing advice and support to the early childhood education sector. This requires excellent relationship management skills and an in-depth knowledge of the education sector at a senior level.

You will have skills and experience in making a direct contribution to student participation and service delivery in a range of early learning settings.

**Mōhou ake | About you**

To be successful in this role, you will have the following capabilities and competencies:

- a qualification in early childhood education or a relevant discipline
- knowledge and experience working with Te Whāriki
- the confidence to work across a diverse range of services and contexts
- an ability to develop strong working relationships both within and outside the Ministry
- understanding of education systems in New Zealand and relevant education legislation
- strong networks and experience working with Māori medium and Pacific early childhood services
- experience in assessing information to make objective judgments against criteria and recommending courses of action
- the ability to analyse complex issues to produce clear and succinct written work with strong written and oral communication skills
- experience in dealing with complex relationships, including influencing and negotiation skills
- a current full driver licence is essential.

We are looking for a team member who has the drive and experience to co-ordinate work aimed at ensuring every child has the opportunity to participate in high quality early childhood education. You will need a thorough understanding of early childhood education and legislation, and the ability to respond rapidly to complex situations.

You will have the ability to lead and influence the sector, and work within communities to support the focus on enhancing educational outcomes for children.

You will demonstrate knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an understanding of Te Ao Māori and promote tikanga and Te Reo Māori. You will also have knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an appreciation of te Tiriti o Waitangi (the Treaty of Waitangi) as it applies in the public sector.

**Mātau rōpū ake | About our ministry, group, and team**

At Te Tāhuhu o te Mātauranga, we provide services and support nationally, regionally and locally to the education sector, and in some cases, directly to ākonga and whānau.

Te Mahau | Te Tai Whenua (Central) is a frontline group that collectively provides leadership and integrated services to the sector and others. This includes services such as learning support and education advice, and regulation functions for kōhanga, schools, kura and early learning services.

As a frontline group we develop and harness existing relationships with communities at the regional and local level, including deep relationships with iwi and hapū.

We also collectively strengthen relationships with our diverse communities who support Māori, Pacific peoples, disabled ākonga
