Horticultural Nursery Worker

**Manukaroha Limited, Trading as Exotica NZ Plant Enthusiasts, is a boutique online store growing and selling rare and exotic plants and associated supplies throughout New Zealand.**

**Their journey started off as a hobby over 10 years ago, and with their early success in growing exotic plant species such as lemongrass, curry leaves, and Asian basil, they have quickly outgrown the space in their family bach with well over 60 fruit trees. Since then, they have established their operation in Northland.**

Due to the growth of the business and its expansive plant collection, we are searching for an experienced Horticultural Nursery Worker to be part of a dynamic, rapidly growing family business based in Northland.

**What will you do?**
- Maintain nursery irrigation systems
- Planning the proper care, handling, and storage of imported seeds
- Utilising a range of techniques for propagation, transplanting, planting, potting seeds, seedlings, and rooted cuttings
- Ensuring ideal soil mixture, fertilising, watering, and light requirements for the plants
- Monitoring plans for healthy growth, identifying and management of weed, insect, disease, and fertilising issues
- Differentiate subtropical plants and identify their specific needs
- Providing advice to customers regarding the proper care for their plants through to harvest
- Assisting with the packaging and shipping of the plants
- Safely transporting plants between sites which may involve travelling throughout the North Island and the wider Auckland region
- Ordering and managing supplies and inventory
- Manage customer queries through social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram
- Operate the business’ e-commerce account with Shopify

**What do you need?**
- New Zealand Class 1 Driver’s Licence with a Forklift Operator Certificate and F endorsement ideal
- NZ Certificate in Horticulture (Nursery Production) (Level 3 and Level 4) OR a minimum of 3 years of experience in a similar role
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test.
- Experience with commercial nurseries and management of seasonal flowers and their routine
- A minimum of 3 years of experience working in a nursery with subtropical plants
- A minimum of 12 months experience with various plant propagation techniques such as Marcot, grafting, air layering, cuttings, and seed growing.
- A strong understanding of different Asian herbs
- Good understanding of pest control management
- Strong computer skills such as MS Word and Excel, an advantage
- Ability to lift plants and bags of soil up to 25 kg.

**What's in it for you?**
- Minimum hours of work are 30 hours per week, between Monday and Sunday, 5 am and 3 pm
- The pay range is between $28- $30/hour, depending on experience

Schedule:

- 8 hour shift
- Monday to Friday
