Tū Māia Regional Youth Forensics Service is looking for a dedicated and experienced Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMHN) to join our dynamic team. In this pivotal role, you'll play a vital part in providing comprehensive assessments, interventions, and support to young people involved in the justice system.
Tū Māia Regional Youth Forensics Service is a specialised service dedicated to addressing the mental health needs of young people within the justice system. Our multidisciplinary team works collaboratively to ensure that each young person receives holistic care tailored to their unique circumstances. Our approach integrates mental health intervention, pharmacology, nursing, psychological support, and community engagement to enhance resilience, promote recovery, and support reintegration into the community.

- Conduct comprehensive mental health assessments, including risk assessments for self-harm, harm to others, and vulnerability.
- Develop and implement individualised treatment plans incorporating pharmacological interventions, psychotherapy, and behavioural strategies.
- Build strong therapeutic relationships with young people, taking into account their developmental stage, cultural background, and individual experiences.
- Collaborate effectively with a multidisciplinary team, including social workers, psychologists, occupational therapists and psychiatrist, lawyers, and law enforcement officers.
- Deliver individual and group therapy sessions focused on reducing distress and increased emotional and behavioural skills.
- Leverage your expertise in child and adolescent mental health (minimum 2 years’ experience) to inform your practice and interventions.
- Contribute to a supportive multi-disciplinary team environment and actively participate in case review meetings.
- When required, conduct assessments for court to inform legal decisions regarding the youth’s care and rehabilitation.
- Employ a bi-cultural practice model to ensure culturally relevant and respectful care. Embrace diverse perspectives and practices to enhance service delivery.
- Contribute to the ongoing development of our service, sharing your expertise and insights to enhance our impact and effectiveness.
- Support the professional growth of your colleagues through mentorship, training, and collaborative practice.
**Nga Pūkenga Motuhake | Important Skills**
- A registered mental health nurse with a minimum of Level 4 qualification (or Level 3 working towards Level 4).
- Well-developed assessment skills, including risk assessment.
- Experience in developing and implementing effective intervention plans.
- Strong report writing and documentation skills.
- A talent for engaging with young people and building rapport.
- Previous experience working with child and adolescent mental health (a plus).
- A commitment to bi-cultural practice and embracing diversity and equity.
- Eagerness to contribute to service development and shape the future of youth forensics care.
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team environment.
- Active participation in multidisciplinary case review meetings.
