**_The role/Te mahi_**
We are seeking an experienced research technician to provide technical support and training for the flow cytometer and cell sorting in the Flow Cytometry Unit (part of the Division of Health Sciences Research Infrastructure Centre); and to train staff and students in the production of replication defective viral vectors (RDVVs) on behalf of the Institutional Biological Safety Committee (IBSC).
In this position you will:
- Carry out routine quality control and maintenance operations on the flow cytometry and cell sorting instruments.
- Provide practical assistance, including operating the cell sorter, to staff and students using the Flow Cytometry Unit
- Provide training in data acquisition and analysis for new and existing users of the Flow Cytometry Unit
- Maintain stocks of flow cytometry consumables.
- Train staff and students in the production of RDVV in line with IBSC requirements.
- Assess competency - theoretical and practical
- Maintain records as required by the IBSC, including advising the IBSC secretary of training completions.
- Review and suggest amendments to the Biological Compliance Officer on an annual basis regarding the online theoretical training for making RDVVs.
**_Your skills and experience/Kā pūkeka me kā wheako_**
- Tertiary qualification.
- Laboratory experience (5+ years) with cell culture experience.
- Experience using flow cytometry
- Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, flow cytometry analysis programs such as FlowJo (or similar), and database administrator skills
- Experience in the production of RDVVs would be an advantage

This is a permanent, part-time, 0.8 FTE position based in Dunedin; 0.6 FTE reporting to the Flow Cytometry Unit Manager and 0.2 FTE reporting to the Biological Compliance Officer.
