We are a court of record. Te Ture Whenua Māori Act 1993 (our Act) recognises the significance of Māori land as a taonga tuku iho of special significance to Māori. The 2020 Amendments have refreshed the Act to better enable and realise the aspirations of Māori landowners. The primary objective of the Māori Land and Māori Appellate Courts is to promote and assist in the retention of Māori land in the hands of its owners and for the effective use, management and development of that land by its owners.
Through its record, Te Kooti Whenua Māori is the guardian of the whakapapa of the land, which is the people.

Te whiwhinga mahi/The Opportunity
We have a vacancy for a Pae Manawa/Principal Liaison Officer based in our Tākitimu Māori Land Court office in Hastings.
This is a rare opportunity to showcase your relationship management skills and abilities, to broker positive engagement and outcomes for Māori landowners with the Māori Land and Māori Appellate Courts.
Our Pae Manawa are responsible for providing specialist facilitation, assessment, analysis and information services to Māori land owners and customers of the Court to enable them to obtain and access specialist resources and professional advice.
A key function of the role is to facilitate the occupation, utilisation and development of Māori land and assets. This is achieved through proactively developing relationships and working in partnership with iwi, hapū, other Māori organisations, government agencies and relevant external service providers.
Our Pae Manawa also conduct seminars and other educational events with Māori land owners and other customers.

He pūkenga tou/Skills and Experience

**To be successful in the role you will have**:

- Already shown your abilities as a proven leader and a great communicator (both written and verbal);
- an in-depth understanding of the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi;
- Demonstrated ability to effectively manage Māori/Crown relationships;
- Demonstrated networking, brokering, facilitation and customer service skills;
- Extensive knowledge of, and connections with, local iwi, hapū and other Māori organisations and networks;
- Extensive working experience with Te Ture Whenua Māori Act 1993 and related legislation;
- Previous experience in public relations, customer service or media management roles; and
- A good general knowledge and respect for tikanga me te reo Māori and a commitment to further develop your knowledge of Te Ao Māori

As part of the technical leadership cohort, you will work alongside well-established, experienced and vibrant leadership teams nationally, while based and working with a smaller, local team. You'll be flexible, calm, resilient and able to comfortably operate within the court and wider external environments.
The ability to travel and occasionally support wider regional and national programmes is essential. A full New Zealand driver's licence is required.

Utu ā-tau/Salary
The appointing salary for this role will be between $83,562 and $116,273 based on skills and experience.
