**Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role**
The purpose of the Māori and Pacific Breastfeeding Support Service is to improve breastfeeding rates of Māori and Pacific women and their babies in the Capital & Coast area through an integrated approach that will have positive components such as:
- Developing the Māori and Pacific health workforce
- Breastfeeding education and promotion among Māori and Pacific mothers and their families
- Linkages with the services in the Provider arm (Antenatal, Post Natal & Māori & Pacific Support Services) of the District
- Linkages with Māori and Pacific Providers (community setting)
- Improve breastfeeding rates for Māori and Pacific in the District
**Mō tō mātou rōpū - About our team**
You will be joining our small, close knit team, working together to deliver breastfeeding support in the community for Māori & Pacific wāhine. We provide a weekly drop-in breastfeeding centre in Porirua, daily visits to the wards to meet new mama's, offer follow-up telephone and home visits as needed, work closely with and refer to our community lactation consultant, arrange loan breast pumps for those in need, work alongside our Safe Sleep Coordinator, and will be trained to provide Peer Counsellor Programme education to the community, supporting the lactation team to provide breastfeeding education to the wider community.
**Moū - About you**
To be successful in this role you will need:
- A full driving licence
- Passionate about breastfeeding
- Full training will be provided
Previous Peer Councillor Programme training, and the ability to speak Te Reo or a Pacific language would be advantageous
