We have an opportunity for a Data Science Technical Lead to join our team Reporting to the Data Science Manager, you will provide technical support and project delivery leadership in support of Auckland Transport's Machine Learning operations and strategic programs, particularly relating to machine learning models development, deployment, and governance. You will also mentor and coach junior members of the team as well as wider analytics teams.

You will work in collaboration with the team to manage machine learning pipelines implementation, solutions and productionisation, working closely with data engineering, data platform teams and business stakeholders to deliver data science solutions.

This is a great opportunity to work with the new generation of high-performance real time parallel Data Warehousing and Big Data Solutions. You'll be part of our transformation to further enable AT to become an insight driven organisation.

You'll provide deep technical expertise and understanding of predictive modelling, resolve escalations, provide architectural expertise and a deep understanding of the wider relationship between IT systems. You'll be comfortable in providing strategic advice and recommendations to the executive level stakeholders and developing and maintaining state-of-the-art statistical and machine learning models.

Critical to this role will be your ability to interpret data and modelling results in a business context and provide commercially focused recommendations that support business decisions. You'll also have a mix of the following skills and experience:

- Advanced working knowledge of analytical programming: SQL, SAS, R or Python
- Proficiency in programming languages, tools and technologies such as Python/PySpark/R/Java/Tensorflow/Vertica/Knime or similar.
- MLOps experience, building data pipelines from data ingestion, pre-processing, feature engineering, modeling, monitoring and maintenance, from a variety of data sources - structured and unstructured data - using SQL and Non-SQL and Big data
- Strong problem solving and analytical approach. Ability to think creatively with data, formulate and get tractions around new ideas, and bring a new perspective to business.
- Experience in coaching junior team members, being positive role model.
