If you answered yes to these questions, come join my policy team in the Local Government Branch at the Department of Internal Affairs. I am looking for an awesome Senior Policy Analyst to contribute to and help lead our work programme on community resilience to natural hazard risks.

Local Government | Ue te Hīnātore is the Government's lead advisor on local government. We provide a long-term vision for the local government system and what is needed to ensure its effective operation and delivery for the people of NZ. Ue Te Hīnātore blends local government expertise, specialised policy advice and operational delivery and oversight.
This role sits in the Natural and Built Environment policy team, and more specifically within the Community Resilience project team. We play a leading role in working with local government to improve community resilience by reducing risks from natural hazards and climate change. We also bring a unique 'bird's eye view' within central government of the range of work programmes across agencies related to natural hazards and climate change and their impact on local government.
Our work programme is currently centered on improving access to natural hazard risk information for home buyers; reducing flood risk and improving flood resilience; and bringing a community resilience lens to the Government's resource management and climate change reforms.
Mōu | About you
To succeed in this role, you will need to be comfortable working collaboratively in a very responsive environment. This Senior Policy Analyst role reports to a Policy Manager, and also regularly undertakes work for the Partnership Director leading the community resilience work programme.
You will have knowledge and/or experience in at least one of these areas: climate change, natural hazards / risks, local government, resource management.
You will have solid experience writing Cabinet papers and ministerial briefings. You will be confident taking technical, detailed input and turning it into well-structured, succinct minister-ready papers.
You will be able to establish productive relationships across other agencies and use your influence to ensure community resilience and the local government system are properly considered in other agencies' work programmes.
You can be based anywhere in New Zealand. The majority of our staff are based at our head office in Thorndon, Wellington, and we have desk space available in the Auckland Policy Office. If based outside Wellington, you can expect to travel to the capital 6-8 times each year.
