Lead priority work in mental health, addiction and suicide prevention, with a primary focus on preventing and minimising gambling harm,
- Wellington based role where you can flex your strategic and technical leadership, as well as policy, data, and financial skills, in a rewarding area of work,
- Salary midpoint of $151,476, actual salary dependent on your experience
**Ko ake mahi - What you'll do**
You will lead technically stimulating and rewarding work with your main focus being the development, and then implementation, of a new strategy to prevent and minimise gambling harm.
Gambling harm is a significant policy issue in New Zealand, with one in five people experiencing harm in their lifetime due to their own or someone else's gambling. This is an opportunity to sink your teeth into some “crunchy” technical work that will influence the health and economic impacts of gambling harm for years to come.
In this role you will:
- Lead work to develop the new strategy to prevent and minimise gambling harm, including using your financial and technical policy analysis skillset to finalise the associated service plan,
- Undertake calculations to set levy rates relating to the problem gambling levy on the gambling industry,
- Support implementation of the strategy, including establishing the Ministry's related monitoring function
- Lead a range of core policy work such as preparing briefings for Ministers and Cabinet papers, project management, engaging with stakeholders, and preparing for announcements,
- Be part of a collaborative team, working with colleagues across the Ministry and other agencies.
For further background:
There will also be an opportunity to support the work of the broader mental health, addiction and suicide prevention team, where we will match people's strengths and interests to focus on different components of our work programme. We enjoy a fun and supportive team culture and we are looking forward to welcoming someone to come in and help drive this important work.
