Wellington Central, New Zealand Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora Full time

**Fixed Term, Part Time (0.6FTE)**
Join Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora at a key time of change where you will meaningfully contribute to our kaupapa of creating a more equitable, accessible, cohesive and people-centered health system.

**Te whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity**

The Operational Policy and Strategic Issues team applies their deep policy and advisory capability to work on projects or initiatives of high or future significance to the organisation. In addition to time critical deliverables, the team connects teams and work programmes within Health NZ and with external partners to ensure alignment and consistency, and to support the organisation to participate in and influence strategy and policy decisions that impact Health NZ's operational priorities.

The Principal Policy Analyst/Advisor role leads the delivery of advice to key stakeholders, both inside and outside the organisation. This role is not your typical principal policy analyst-type role - it requires thought leadership, agility and the ability to meld an understanding of the operational and delivery focus of the organization with more traditional policy skills. The role will hold portfolio relationships with areas across the organization, to understand what their needs are and how the Operatioanal Policy team can support them to best deliver, including through the right advice at the right time.

No two days will be the same - work can span from developing ways to streamline how we manage Cabinet paper processes through to providing thought leadership advice to the Health NZ Board on a cross-cutting topic or responding to a request for short-term advice from the Chief Executive on an issue of the day. In addition, the team has a role to play in delivering complex pieces of work and continuous improvement of processes, tools and frameworks to support effective decision making, and real change in our health system.

This is a one year fixed term, part time (0.6 FTE) role, preferably located in Wellington though consideration will be given to applicants from other main centres. Would suit someone with the ability to convene cross-cutting leadership groups, and or/an interest in Health NZ's Data and Digital portfolio

**_ Please note:_**_ we also have one fixed term part time and one permanent full time Principal Policy Advisor role available, each with slightly different requirements:_
- _KHJ/HNZ/1788738 Permanent: Background in public health, health innovation and/or health equity._
- _KHJ/HNZ/1788739 Fixed Term, full time: Exposure to working on budget bids and working with Finance teams would be an advantage for this role, as would experience or interest in either primary/community care, health infrastructure_

**Mōu | About you**

You will have substantial Principal Policy Analyst or Advisor experience within the health and disability sector, with a focus on the link between operational settings, delivery and strategic outcomes. Your excellent written and verbal communication skills mean you will have the ability to effectively explain technical concepts to non experts and share knowledge across the organisation. You will be comfortable working in an ambiguous and complex environment, and be adaptable to changing priorities.

You will utilise your extensive senior-level networks, interpersonal and relationship building skills to better lead complex, vital pieces of work. Strong internal and external senior stakeholder management experience along with strategic thinking and a high level of analytical ability will be key to success in this role. You will bring skills in strategic thinking, financial literacy, a strong risk radar and project management ability. You are able to demonstrate a high level of judgment and be able to cut through ambiguity to distill insights to advise senior leaders.

**Ka kawea e koe | You will bring**:
