**1. GENERAL**

Student Services provides high quality integrated services that foster engagement, promote wellbeing

and support students in achieving their academic goals. The work of Student Services comprises the

following student services: administrative processes from student recruitment to enrolment through to

graduation, enquiry management, pastoral care, international student services, health, accommodation,

counselling, disabilities support, career development services, sport and wellbeing, student surveys and

student complaints and appeals.

The Director of Student Services is responsible for the overall management of the Division, with

assistance from a team of Associate Directors including the Associate Director Student Health.

The University Health Service provides high quality, accessible health and wellbeing care to students.

The integrated, multidisciplinary team supports the educational process by modifying or removing health
- related barriers to personal development and learning.

**2. POSITION PURPOSE**

To provide expert Nurse Practitioner primary care services for patients at Student Health Service. To work

collaboratively and innovatively with other colleagues at Student Health Services and the wider University

community to improve health and wellbeing.

**3. ACCOUNTABILITY**
The Nurse Practitioner is responsible to the Senior General Practitioner.

**5. KEY TASKS
- **

Provision of expert Nurse Practitioner care for students currently enrolled at The University of Waikato
- Provide clinical services that achieve agreed PHO targets.
- Managing clinical results
- Promote health literacy and healthy lifestyle choices
- Work in collaboration with the integrated Student Health Service Team
- Manage the systems, processes and resources to meet the needs of the patient / consumer / tangata

Participate in the maintenance of a safe and healthy work environment for self and others including

students. Comply with and undertake responsibilities set out in the University’s Health and Safety

Policy.

**NOTE**:Staff have annual objectives, development and reflection (ODR) meetings with their manager. New

staff normally attend such a meeting approximately three months after taking up their appointment.

The Nurse Practitioner will be performing satisfactorily when:
Delivery of care contributes to expeditious recovery from illness and injury.

**PERSON SPECIFICATION**

**EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS**
**Essential
- **

Registration with Nursing Council of New Zealand as Registered Nurse.
- Approved by the Nursing Council of New Zealand to hold Nurse Practitioner registration.
- A current practising certificate with the Nursing Council of New Zealand.
- Masters qualified as per Nurse Practitioner expectations
- Prescribing rights

**Preferred

Postgraduate diploma

**TRAINING, SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE**
**Essential
- **

Five years recent clinical experience
- Proven experience as a Nurse Practitioner
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Ability to work in positions of responsibility, demonstrating assessment skills and independent decision

making

**Preferred
- **

Knowledge of the welfare/health needs of tertiary students.
- Proven strategic thinking, planning and delivery of innovative health improvement initiatives.
