**The company**

An innovative and experienced forest management company who acts on behalf of their owners and manages one of New Zealand’s most iconic plantation forests. Forestry operations across their central North Island plantation include the management of the plantation, harvesting and a modern Timber Processing Facility.

**The opportunity**

As a strategic thinker with a passion for occupational health and safety you will lead the business in reducing H&S risks and improving workplace safety across the business.

In this role, you will work closely with leadership and other key stakeholders to understand the strategic and business planning objectives, identify opportunities to enhance safety measures and reduce risks.

You will need to build strong relationships with team members at all levels of the organisation and communicate effectively to ensure that safety is a top priority.

**Some key responsibilities in the roles include**:

- Advocate a ‘Partnering’ culture across the business and proactively work to improve OHS performance.
- Review current versus future capability needs and strategic goals and where needed implement any changes to achieve these objectives.
- Ensure existing OHS policies, standards, procedures, and work instructions are revised regularly to ensure best practice is maintained.
- Provide expert OHS advice (including mentoring and training) to influence operations and other business units across the business.
- Utilise and champion OHS systems.
- Working closely with Contract Managers and Service Providers/Contractors to drive improvement in OHS performance and knowledge of OHS best practices
- Respond to OHS incidents if required to best support operations.
- Set up the OHS team for success by providing leadership, mentoring and professional development.
