**Tēnei tūranga - About the Role**: The Director Māori is a newly established position within the Office of the Deputy Secretary, Corporate Services, Finance & Enablement. This is a significant opportunity where you will be role responsible for supporting and guiding our group to meet the commitments under Whāinga Amorangi. You will lead new ways of working and initiatives that enhance our functions processes, systems and policies to reflect Te Tiriti and incorporate Te Ao Māori perspectives into our interactions, messaging and how we deliver our services. You will help build and maintain relationships with iwi and Māori so we can better service MBIE and Aotearoa.
A core focus for this role will be advising and guiding us, lifting our group capability and approach to partnering with Māori and the delivery of services that meet the needs of our kaimahi across MBIE and externally. You will do this work closely with our Director Mātauranga Māori and Kai Tōmina Head of Te Iho Poutama to assist with the development and implementation of a programme of work to lift the knowledge and capability of our people to be comfortable and confident working and engaging with Māori.
You will be a trusted advisor to the Deputy Secretary and General Managers, providing strategic advice, and leading key projects that support the branches and business group to support delivery of the group’s priorities and strategic agenda. You will also manage complex issues and identify and mitigate risk through planning for potentially controversial or sensitive issues.

Ngā pukenga me ngā wheako e hiahiatia ana - Skills and Experience Required

We are looking for an individual with the following skills and experience:

- Māori leadership experience and ability to work with and influence senior leaders and decision-makers to achieve organisational objectives.
- In depth knowledge of Te Reo Māori me ōna tikanga and understanding of current Government policy and community views on the Treaty of Waitangi
- Demonstrated ability to deal with complex and emerging issues that contain a high level of ambiguity.
- Demonstrated ability to quickly establish, and build strong internal and external working relationships, including iwi and key Māori organisations
- Experience of working with Māori communities, iwi, hapū and key Māori organisations
- Significant experience working in an advisory capacity with Government
