Mō te tūranga | About the Role

As a Lead Data Engineer, you will build, manage, and support Data pipelines to continue to enhance our customers experience with next generation technology. Your knowledge and understanding of programming languages will allow you to understand and pull timely, relevant insights from our data assets when working with cross-functional teams across Westpac. Furthermore, as a Lead Data Engineer you will be working building the reusable pattern that will be used for building Data Products.

You will be able to work closely with stakeholders and use your experience to build and implement solutions using programming techniques and tools, while maintaining compliance up to the bank’s standard. You will not only fix problems, clean and filter data sources, you will provide advice, guidance, and assistance and be a real team player.

- Design and implement Databricks (future requirement) platforms for the future requirements.
- Work closely with Service Groups and Stakeholders to have a clear delivery roadmap for data lineage and the Cloud modernization journey.
- Responsible for implementation, maintenance, and support Informatica range of Products (PowerCenter, Data Quality and Enterprise Data Catalog, etc.,) using industry standards and best practices to integrate systems both on-premises and cloud.
- Design and implement Databricks (future requirement) platforms for the future requirements.
- Work with stakeholders to understand business requirements and data models; participate in code reviews and collaborate with other engineers to maintain high-quality code.
- Collaborates with the Architecture teams and IT teams to understand technical direction and ensure strategic and operational alignment around platform set, maintenance & lifecycle management.
- Implement and manage multiple tiers, development, test, pre-production, production environments across the teams.
- Document and maintain run books for the associated tools for this team in line with corporate standards.
- Keep up-to date with the latest versions (patching / upgrade), maintain the platform to reduce operational risks, optimise efficiency and improve standards in line with appropriate best practice.
- Flexible and willingness to work on different projects and technologies.
- Analytical skills & ability to evolve in a complex and diverse technical environment.
- Coach and mentors’ other engineers in the team
- 8+ years of experience preferred.
- Strong experience is understanding data mappings (pipelines) in Informatica PowerCenter and Data Quality
- Good experience in Informatica data lineage - Enterprise Data Catalog
- Hand on experience on Databricks, Spark, Hadoop, Airflows
- Strong knowledge of structured query language (SQL) skills, data warehouse and scripting (Shell script, Python)
- Strong relationship management skills and stakeholder management skills
- Preferred exposure to Cloud technologies - AWS, Azure
- Solid oral and written communication, Able to manage suppliers and vendors and fluent in English both written and spoken
