**Tēnei tūranga - About the role**:
Working with the internal procurement and commercial team, you will contribute to the success of our customer centric operating model.

This permanent position requires your procurement knowledge to assist in providing considered, pragmatic advice on procurement matters to improve procurement capability across the branch and deliver on a truly customer centric approach.

Reporting to the Procurement Practice Manager, this role works within a team of fun and competent procurers who are passionate about delivering results and achieving the best value for money whilst working to MBIE's purpose of Growing New Zealand for All.

As a Procurement Specialist you will assist in providing robust and considered customer focused procurement advice (both in person and in written form), and with supporting and building procurement capability across MBIE. You will work with the team to provide continuous improvement of internal competencies in procurement, contract management, and supplier relationship management.

About the team The internal procurement and commercial team are part of the Finance, Systems, Operations and Procurement branch which sits within the Finance and Performance group. The group is responsible for the full range of functions, including ensuring MBIE's internal controls are strong and fit-for-purpose, by developing and implementing effective financial policies, procedures, systems and operational finance services that support MBIE's deliverables. Procurement is responsible for providing advice to the business on procurement guidelines, preparing procurement plans and associated documentation and ensuring compliance with the New Zealand Government Procurement (NZGP) requirements.

Ngā pukenga me ngā wheako e hiahiatia ana - Skills and experience required:

- Practical experience in procurement and associated functions including delivering procurement projects to scope, on time and budget and achieving successful procurement outcomes - ideally 3 years in a procurement role.
- An understanding of change management principles and how these should be applied to maximise successful procurement outcomes.
- Good understanding of market analysis principles and can undertake supply market research, identify trends, forecast changes, and inform the development of procurement strategies that exercise a deterministic influence within key supply markets to government.
- Practical influencing skills with the ability to support a negotiation team in the maximisation of value in multi-million-dollar contract negotiation.
- Thorough understanding of legal frameworks and contract law needed to deliver robust contracts.
- Practical proficiency in MS Excel with an eye for detail.
- Must have the legal right to live and work in New Zealand.
