Join a dynamic team to lead the technical direction of a high-quality fantasy Action‑RPG, focusing on delivering a polished vertical slice using Unreal Engine 5.
This long‑term remote contract centers on developing an engaging action combat system, seamless three‑character switching, dual skill palettes, and sophisticated boss AI with multi‑phase encounters.
The role offers significant creative input and the potential for a full‑time position if the project secures funding.
You will collaborate closely with a small, passionate team to bring cinematic and gameplay experiences together, ensuring the project meets its ambitious goals within the set timeline.
Responsibilities
Oversee the technical development and architecture of the ARPG vertical slice
Implement and refine action combat mechanics and three‑character switching systems
Develop and optimise dual skill palettes for each playable character
Design and program complex boss AI with multiple phases and behaviours
Integrate cinematic‑to‑gameplay transitions for a seamless player experience
Collaborate with designers, artists, and other developers to ensure technical feasibility and high‑quality output
Provide mentorship and technical guidance to team members
Ensure project milestones are met and maintain clear documentation throughout development
Skills And Requirements
Minimum 3 years of professional game development experience
Proven track record with at least one shipped AA or AAA title
Expert proficiency in Unreal Engine 5 and Unreal C++
Deep understanding of action combat systems and gameplay mechanics
Experience with AI behaviour trees and advanced enemy design
Strong portfolio or code samples demonstrating relevant technical skills
Familiarity with party‑based systems and the Gameplay Ability System (GAS) is a plus
Knowledge of Soulslike games and their mechanics is advantageous
Excellent problem‑solving, communication, and collaboration skills
Ability to work independently in a remote environment and meet project deadlines
Availability for an 8–10 month contract, with project completion required by July 2026
