The Mountain Jade company is looking for a Chief Executive to take our company into the future.
We have been operating from Rotorua for over 25 years and have a great team with a positive outlook.
Last year we were the winner of the Rotorua Supreme Excellence Business of the Year Award, and this year we were finalists.
We’re proud of our team and strive to operate as a values-driven business.
We are the largest pounamu/jade retailer in the country with four retail outlets, a great retail website, and a staff of more than 40.
We source much of our carvings and jewellery from New Zealand’s most talented artists.
Right now, we have an exciting opportunity for a new leader to join our business and help Mountain Jade continue growing into the future.
PURPOSEThe appointee is responsible for providing strategic leadership and operational oversight to the wider Mountain Jade business while also leading a high performing team of Senior Managers.
You will oversee an organisation of 40+ employees spread across four stores, two workshops, and an industry leading website, ensuring they have the support and guidance required to be successful in their work.
This role reports directly to the Mountain Jade board.
SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIESDirect oversight of a team of four Senior Managers and two Retail Managers.
Regular board reporting, including presentation of financial results.
Oversight of the retail function of the business.
Providing guidance and support to the Workshop Manager, ensuring our onsite manufacturing runs smoothly.
Contributing to the product ranging and pricing strategies across the business.
Fostering relationships with external partners, suppliers and iwi groups.
Identifying and executing new business development opportunities.
Ensuring decisions are made in line with Mountain Jade’s values.
Overseeing the wider team culture to ensure Mountain Jade remains a vibrant place for our team to work.
Implementing Health and Safety policies to ensure a safe environment for both staff and customers.
DESIRABLE SKILLS, EXPERIENCE & EDUCATIONA relevant tertiary qualification in business, finance or a related field is preferable but not essential.
Experience should include at least one of the following: Exposure to the Pounamu/Jade Industry.
Experience in Tourism or Attractions.
Experience in Retail Leadership.
Having a high level of attention to detail.
Demonstrating leadership of large teams.
Having time management and organisation skills, and the ability to work under pressure.
Having a professional approach to work.
Having a commitment to the significant connection that Māori have with pounamu.
