Mahi | The Role
Te Atamira is looking for a Curator to shape and deliver an ambitious, inclusive, and community-focused visual arts programme.
Based in Tāhuna Queenstown, we are a multidisciplinary arts space dedicated to creativity, connection, and cultural expression every day.
As Curator, you’ll be at the heart of developing and delivering a diverse programme of exhibitions, artist projects, and public events that reflect Te Atamira’s values of artistic excellence, inclusivity, and community relevance.
Working closely with the director, artists and our internal team, you’ll bring thoughtful curatorial vision to life - from concept through to installation - while also ensuring the highest standards of care for the artworks we host.
This full-time role also includes key registrar responsibilities, such as managing logistics, artwork loans, and condition reporting.
You’ll lead the curatorial development of our exhibition programme, collaborate on engaging public events like artist talks and workshops, and support broader initiatives around audience development and funding.
Strong project management skills, attention to detail, and a deep commitment to Te Tiriti and culturally responsive practice will be essential.
Ō Pūkenga me Ō Wheako | Your Skills and Experience
Essential:
Demonstrated curatorial experience in a gallery or public art context
Excellent communication and organisational skills
Understanding of collection care and registrar processes
A commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and inclusive practice
Desirable:
Tertiary qualification in arts administration, museum studies, visual arts or related field and at least 3-5 years experience
Strong understanding of the Aotearoa New Zealand arts ecosystem
Familiarity with the Queenstown Lakes District’s cultural landscape
Location: Te Atamira, Frankton, Queenstown.
Hours: 40 hours per week flexible (Monday–Friday, with flexibility for after-hours programmes and events).
