Tairawhiti has a high Māori population with relatively high levels of airways disease and lung cancer and this role offers considerable opportunity to address inequitable health outcomes in a culturally diverse area.

Key Responsibilities:

As a Pulmonology Physician, you will:

  1. Provide clinical expertise across the speciality of General Respiratory and basic Sleep Medicine, participating in the delivery of excellent patient care, research and regional expertise in line with the organisation's vision and values.
  2. Undertake outpatient chest clinics (2 per week) and provide a bronchoscopy service and other early management of suspected lung cancer patients.
  3. Liaise with tertiary respiratory services in multidisciplinary management of patients with lung cancer and complex respiratory disorders.
  4. Work with respiratory physiologists to oversee the lung function laboratory.
  5. Collaborate with specialist respiratory nurse and physiotherapist staff managing patients with airways disease and long term oxygen therapy.

In addition, you have the opportunity to participate in the acute general medicine service or intensive care unit, based on your clinical experience and interests.

This is a permanent, full-time position, 40 hours per week plus after hours call availability that depends on whether you are participating in the ICU or acute medicine call.

You will require a strong commitment to comprehensive care encompassed within General Internal Medicine or Intensive Care, including full involvement in the acute roster for admission and ongoing care of undifferentiated acute adult hospital presentations.

Requirements:

  1. Medical degree and relevant board certification in Respiratory and Internal Medicine.
  2. Either currently have or be eligible for specialist registration in New Zealand.
  3. Experience in acute general medicine or intensive care, preferably at smaller centres.
  4. Proficiency in performing bronchoscopies and managing lung cancer referrals.
  5. Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively work with patients, families, and healthcare teams.
  6. Commitment to holistic patient care and a collaborative approach to medicine.
  7. Committed to clinical excellence in all disciplines; and Senior Medical Staff are encouraged to take part in clinical audits and peer reviews to ensure quality clinical care is provided.

As a part of NZ medical registration application, you will be required to provide source verification of your qualifications.
