The opportunity - Te āheinga

Join our dynamic Strategy and Planning Group, where we are dedicated to fostering vibrant, resilient communities. We are seeking a passionate and experienced Community Development Advisor to lead and support our community initiatives.

Responsibilities
  • Actively ensure that legislative requirements and Council policies and procedures are fulfilled, particularly in relation to all key relevant legislation.
  • Ensure the delivery of capacity building to the district's community organisations including assistance with sustainable funding and strategic plans in achieving clear outcomes.
  • Catalyse the implementation of community sector activation, strategy creation, and action plan implementation to address complex community issues that can only be solved in collaboration.
  • Provide specialist advice and capability support to ensure Council's partnerships, community investments and engagement approaches are of a high quality and deliver dynamic outcomes.
  • Existing strategic council and community partnerships are maintained and strengthened to ensure that Council is well connected across community and industry, while continually providing advocacy and advice for new strategic partnerships.
  • Engagement approaches with wider district communities is effective and support democratic local decision-making in line with Councils Significance and Engagement Policy.
  • Manage conflicts of interest and bias to support quality decision-making for management and elected members at Council.
Qualifications
  • University degree or similar in a related field.
  • Minimum five years experience working in related field of community development.
  • Experience in understanding and practical application of community development theories and frameworks.
  • Evidence of strong relationship-building skills with an ability to promote trust building between external stakeholders and facilitate collaboration.
  • Proven ability to see the big picture and think strategically.
  • Delivery in understanding and application of Treaty of Waitangi principles.
  • Experience with strong planning, report writing and organising abilities.
  • Evidence of ability and willingness to work independently and in teams, to take initiative and think creatively.
  • Experience with stakeholder management across government, community, education and industry sectors with an ability to bridge the three together with competing viewpoints.

You can expect to start in this permanent, full-time role with a salary of between $94,958 - $102,343.
