Auckland, Auckland, New Zealand IDEXX Full time

IDEXX continues to invest in Veterinary Software with a goal to offer the first vertical SaaS platform for Animal Health. We're growing both our capacity to deliver impactful software and the technical expertise to tackle future challenges relating to scale. Auckland's home to our global software center of excellence where we develop a portfolio of cloud platforms and applications.

We're seeking a skilled Technical Lead to join the Auckland team and lead a squad of keen software engineers focused on one of our most critical applications, Vello. This role balances hands-on technical work and team leadership, with time split about 50/50. You'll tackle complex technical challenges while creating clear paths for the team to follow.

You'll work with modern web technologies, including TypeScript, Go, and cloud-native architectures, to develop robust and maintainable solutions. With a strong focus on DevOps and automation, you'll contribute to CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, and system reliability. If you're passionate about building cutting-edge applications in a fast-moving environment and enjoy working with event-driven architecture, domain-services, containerization, and distributed systems, we'd love to hear from you

The high level responsibilities of your role:

  • As a leader, you inspire, mentor, and train a cross-functional squad to deliver complete value streams. You'll oversee squad members, ensuring their software meets high standards, aligns with the product roadmap, and supports the overall technical strategy.

  • Your primary goal is to build effective, engaged engineering teams, typically a single Squad. Working closely with Product Managers, Architects, and Leadership, you'll balance technical quality, team satisfaction, and delivery outcomes for users.

  • The secondary goal is to lead by example—whether as an engineer, architect, or advocate for quality assurance. Your expertise in any of these areas will allow you to provide guidance and mentorship that empowers your teams.

What you need to succeed:

  • Proven experience as a Senior Software Engineer.

  • Proven technical people influencer.

  • Experienced in evolving culture and process towards better engagement, agility, automated testing, and DevSecOps.

  • Experience with principles and practices related to cloud technologies.

  • Practical knowledge of systems and/or software design.

  • Familiarity with modern web technologies (such as React), and cloud backend technologies (such as GoLang, Typescript, .NET, Ruby, Java).

  • Agile processes including Scrum, Kanban, and/or others.

  • Previous experience in scaled SaaS environment is hugely desirable.

What you can expect from us:

  • Structured onboarding, induction, ongoing training and transparent performance driven professional development.

  • Rewarding salary packages including lucrative incentive schemes for all.

  • Continuous L&D (both internal and externally).

  • Great tech kit for both work and personal use.

  • Hybrid working with a great office space to collaborate - including a gym and roof top terrace

  • Coffee + Fruit + Food Truck Friday

  • Dog friendly office.

  • Fully subsidized Southern Cross Health insurance.

  • Part subsidized parking via Parkable.

  • Career pathways that will take you places if you are willing and able.
