Te whiwhinga mahi| The Opportunity
We are looking for an experienced Anatomic Pathologist to join our team based at Mt Wellington, Auckland. This is an excellent opportunity to work with NZ's largest and highly specialised community based laboratory service.
In this role, you will be working between 40 and 50 hours per week. However, the actual hours of work will be negotiated with the Clinical Lead during the interview stage. You will work rostered hours to meet the requirements of the service as needed. On call may be required but is uncommon.
Anatomic Pathology Service (APS) in Mt Wellington provides services to approximately 4,000 private specialists, private surgical hospitals and general practitioners with up to 500 histology specimens received per day, and a further 15-20 for non-gynaecological cytology.
The specimens cover a wide range of subspecialties in the areas of skin, gastroenterological, gynaecological, breast, head and neck, respiratory and urological pathology. This service also covers approximately one third of the national cervical screening programme. Gynecologic cytology is an option for this position but not obligatory. This role does not involve autopsies, which are under the auspices of the National Forensic Pathology Service.
APS processes a large volume of skin samples and is an ideal environment for candidates who have an interest or expertise in dermatopathology. We regularly train candidates, with excellent success rate thus far, in preparation for advanced dermatopathology certification including the European examination and the Australasian College- the latter only when available. Specialization in any area of work here however is encouraged since the volume allows people to narrow their scope to mutually agreed combinations of organ systems.
As the ideal candidate for this role you will be a trained Anatomical Pathologist and will either have or be eligible for vocational registration with Medical Council of New Zealand.
Please note, if you are not currently registered in New Zealand and have overseas medical qualifications, you will be required to provide source verification of your qualifications for your registration application. For more information about the registration process and source verification of qualifications, please visit www.mcnz.org.nz.
APS serves the community general practice and private medical / surgical specialist anatomical pathology for approximately 1.8 million people. We are a component of Health New Zealand Te Toka Tumai Auckland. The greater organization provides health and disability services to more than half a million people living in central Auckland, regional services for Northland and greater Auckland, and specialist national services for the whole of New Zealand.
We are part of Te Whatu Ora – Health New Zealand, the overarching organisation for New Zealand's national health service. Health New Zealand leads the day-to-day running of the public health system, with functions delivered at local, district, regional and national levels.
We are committed to upholding Te Tiriti o Waitangi and providing culturally safe care. We value role modelling manaakitanga as demonstrated by Ngāti Whātua in the gifting of their whenua on which our hospitals stand. We aspire to having a workforce reflective of the communities we serve and achieving equitable outcomes for all.
We recognise there is more to life than mahi | work, and we encourage and provide access to all our staff several services and benefits to support themselves whilst they are employed within Te Toka Tumai Auckland.
Please submit your application online, outlining your experience and motivation to apply to this role.
If you have any queries about accessibility, or technical issues with the online process, or require information in an accessible format, please contact Aaron Chamberlain at aaron.chamberlain@tewhatuora.govt.nz, quoting ADHB21932 to discuss how we can best support your application.
Immigration NZ has introduced a new Accredited Employer Work Visa system from 4 July 2022 that includes a simplified residency process for health workers on the new "Green List" of occupations – and this position is one of those designated critical positions For successful candidates offered a position with us who require a Work Visa, we will provide support with their Visa application.
Te Toka Tumai | Auckland is an inclusive and equal opportunity employer that values and embraces the diverse population we serve. We welcome and support people of all gender identities, ages, ethnicities, sexual orientations, disability and religion.
