As the Principal Advisor Risk and Assurance, you will lead the Electoral Commission's risk management strategy and drive best practices in assurance across all operations. Your work will focus on developing and embedding an enterprise risk framework, enhancing our organisational risk maturity, and ensuring the Commission's activities align with best practice risk management.
In this pivotal role, you will provide high-quality advice, support enterprise risk reporting, and lead assurance programme planning. You will partner with teams across the organisation to embed risk practices, support project-level documentation, and offer training that enhances risk capability. You will be a key advisor to senior leaders, offering strategic insights to guide decision-making and ensure risks are managed effectively.

This is a permanent full-time role, and the salary band 19 is $145,877 - $162,086.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the development and embedding of the Commission's risk management framework, processes, and tools.
- Design and implement a work plan to enhance risk management maturity across the organisation.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to identify risks and provide guidance on risk mitigation strategies.
- Provide timely and accurate reporting on risk and assurance activities to the Executive Leadership Team and the Board.
- Lead assurance planning, including coordinating assurance engagements and providing support on assurance assessments.
- Deliver training to build risk management capability across teams.
You are an experienced professional with a proven background in risk management and assurance, able to operate at both a strategic and operational level. Your ability to see the big picture while managing the details enables you to drive improvement across risk practices, working collaboratively to influence and upskill teams. You are confident advising senior leaders, providing insights that help shape organisational strategies.
To succeed in this role, you will need:
- Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing risk management frameworks.
- Expertise in providing advice and delivering assurance activities, ideally within a complex organisation.
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify risks and implement effective solutions.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage with and influence stakeholders at all levels.
- A strong understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and a commitment to applying its principles in your work.
- A proactive, forward-thinking mindset, comfortable working independently to achieve outcomes.
