Job Purpose: This is a contract position to teach in the field of Afrikaans Home Language and Education to Intermediate Phase students on the Wellington Campus.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • A relevant Master's degree in Afrikaans (Language and Literature) and/or Education (History of Education)
  • Afrikaans as a major subject at the undergraduate level
  • A relevant teaching qualification
  • At least two (2) years of relevant lecturing experience at tertiary level or two (2) years relevant experience in IP phase at school level.
  • Specialised knowledge of methodologies of teaching Afrikaans

RECOMMENDATIONS:

  • A relevant Doctoral degree in Afrikaans and Education
  • Experience in research and postgraduate supervision

Key Performance Areas / Principal Accountabilities:

  • Teaching of Afrikaans HL in the IP department
  • Curriculum development and other learning materials
  • Supervising students on teaching practice
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Academic administration, development, and administration
  • Assessment and quality assurance
  • Adequate knowledge of South African CAPS document related to Afrikaans
  • Networking with schools and other networks
  • Coaching and mentoring of students and staff
  • Ability to work in a team
  • Perform other functions as may be assigned by the head of department
  • Excellent professional and technical knowledge in the subject area
  • Excellent teaching skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
