Health care assistants are the lifeline of the health care industry. We are looking for a positive and proactive Health Care Assistant to support our busy and hardworking team within the Queen Mary Maternity Unit. This role is an ideal way for you to kick start your career in health and gain invaluable experience.

Mō te tūranga | About the role

We pride ourselves on having a strong focus on customer service, and its success is reliant on effective communication and teamwork. In this important role, you will help with a range of direct and non-direct patient care tasks under the direction of the midwives and nurses on the ward, maintaining the department environment to ensure efficient and effective functioning, including:

  • Cleaning of delivery rooms, Antenatal/Postnatal rooms, and clinic rooms
  • Supporting our nurses and other members of the healthcare team
  • Clerical duties as required
  • Commitment to rotating rostered shifts
  • Well organized, with a positive "can do" attitude and able to communicate clearly and openly
  • Ability to take direction from a variety of staff
  • Experience working with people in a caring capacity, whether gained from a professional environment or from caring for children or whānau
  • Hold working rights in New Zealand
  • Previous health care experience is advantageous

Not only do we get to care for fabulous women and families from all across our diverse region, but we also work alongside kind, compassionate, dedicated midwives and other health professionals to provide a safe and positive birthing experience.

Each year we birth around 1,800 babies and work closely with the midwifery and medical schools to give the kind of care our patients deserve.

Utu whānui | Salary range

This role is covered by the terms and conditions of the expired NZNO CEA, and the salary will be in accordance with the HCA Pay Scale, between $60,100 and $70,358 p.a pro rata depending on relevant experience.
