He angitūtanga: The opportunity

As our Māori Outcomes Graduate, you'll help drive Te Kaunihera o Tāmaki Makaurau's commitment to give effect to Te Tiriti o Waitangi by supporting the delivery of meaningful and impactful outcomes for Māori. As part of the Group Shared Services directorate, you will work alongside our shared services departments to provide advice and support to their deliverables using a Te Ao Māori lens.

One of our key focus areas is Kia Hāngai te Kaunihera, which aims to build an empowered organisation with the ability to deliver on the needs and aspirations of Māori. Through our shared service provision, we uplift our Māori specialist teams across the Council group to ensure they have the resources, capacity, and capabilities needed to achieve this goal.

You could expect to work on:

  • Te Kanorau, te Mana Taurite, me te Kauawhitanga
    Supporting the uplift and providing Māori representation for our Diversity and Inclusion mahi.
  • Te mahi āheitanga
    Assisting with Māori capability training and development initiatives

He kōrero mōu: About you
We're seeking a dynamic and passionate graduate who embodies the drive and initiative needed to thrive in this unique role. The ideal candidate will be:

  • Action-Oriented: You're highly motivated and don't wait for direction to take action. You can identify opportunities or issues and independently turn them into meaningful projects or initiatives. Your ability to take initiative and work flexibly will be critical to your success.
  • A Skilled Facilitator: You have strong facilitation skills and can confidently lead meetings, create and deliver presentations, and design and run engaging workshops. Your ability to bring people together and drive collaborative outcomes will set you apart.
  • Te Reo Māori: A strong grasp of te reo Māori is essential, and fluency is highly preferred. You'll use te reo Māori daily in your work, applying a Māori worldview (Te Ao Māori) to every aspect of your mahi.
  • Mātauranga Māori: You have a deep understanding of mātauranga Māori and tikanga Māori, which are vital to your mahi. You consistently apply mātauranga and a Māori worldview to workplace interactions, projects, and initiatives, ensuring cultural practices and values are at the forefront of all activities.
  • Teamwork: You thrive in a close-knit team environment, working collaboratively with us and others from diverse backgrounds and roles across the Council group. Your ability to build strong connections and contribute to a supportive team dynamic is essential to our shared success.
  • Relationship-Oriented: You excel at building and maintaining relationships, particularly with Māori communities in Tāmaki Makaurau. You understand the importance of engaging with and serving mana whenua and mātāwaka, ensuring their needs and aspirations are central to the work you do.

We welcome applications from graduates in the following disciplines:

  • Human Resource Management or Learning and development disciplines
  • Te Reo, Te Āo Māori education or knowledge

To be eligible to apply, you must have the following:

  • Be eligible to work in New Zealand, or be eligible to apply for a Post-Study Work Visa
  • A relevant Bachelor's or Master's degree obtained between January 2024 – January 2026
