Team Leader, Advice and Support at Victoria University of Wellington, Wellington - Wairarapa

Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting a permanent, full-time Team Leader, Advice and Support to join the Te Amaru - Disability Services team in the Student Equity and Wellbeing Portfolio.

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead the Support Navigators, Disability and Inclusion Advisors and Senior Disability and Inclusion Advisor to ensure they are effectively managed to provide professional, timely disability advice and support to students and staff.
  • Work closely with the Team Leader - Service Provision, and Accessibility and Inclusion Lead to provide coherent, positive, operational leadership to the Te Amaru - Disability Services team and seek guidance from the Associate Director, Student Equity and Wellbeing as needed.
  • Provide advice and support for a caseload of students, assessing their needs, establishing disability inclusion arrangements as needed, connect and collaborate with internal and external services, foster wellbeing, achievement and development and ensure records are kept.
  • Work with the Associate Director and Service Leadership team to lead the direction, culture and practices of the Te Amaru - Disability Services team and ensure the team's internal and external reputation remains high.
  • Work closely with counterparts in key student services, faculties and external agencies as needed to enhance the experience of disabled students and embed disability inclusive approaches at the University.

You will be an experienced Allied Health Professional with demonstrated leadership ability who wants to make a difference doing meaningful work.

Key requirements:

  • An experienced Allied Health Professional with a current registration and a University degree in Social Work.
  • Demonstrated ability in leadership in the areas of needs assessment and case management.
  • Experience in working with disabled people (including mental health) and people who are deaf.
  • Demonstrated ability in leading problem solving, planning and implementation that achieves project or team objectives.
  • Experience in producing high quality written and in person communication to a range of audiences across different mediums.
  • Strong and adaptable organisational, administrative, written and computer skills.
  • Experience and interest in working with Māori, Pasifika and Rainbow communities.
  • Knowledge and understanding of current disability inclusive strategies and approaches.
