We are looking for a highly motivated legal practitioner to join the Corporate & Registries team as a Team Leader.
This role is a people leader position in which the successful applicant will have responsibility for the direct management of people, complex work programmes and will contribute to the overall development and leadership of the Legal, Ethics and Privacy branch. The Corporate & Registries team provides general legal advice to all MBIE's operations, including in relation to MBIE's 16 different regulatory systems and on governance, integrity and conduct matters that touch the organisation. As Team Leader you will lead a team of professionals to deliver high quality and accurate legal advice on complex and high profile matters within agreed timeframes across all MBIE's operations.
In this role you will proactively engage and build collaborative networks at all levels, to work in partnership with managers and stakeholders across the various groups at MBIE. You will work with autonomy in a collaborative and collegial team, sharing your knowledge and expertise and providing leadership that motivates others to achieve. You will also provide assistance to the Legal Services Manager, Chief Executive, MBIE's Senior Leadership Team, Ministers and the Ministry in general to support the achievement of the Ministry's goals and objectives.
You will utilise your experience in leading and managing teams to build and enhance the overall team capability to provide innovative advice and products to both internal and external stakeholders. You will implement strategies, work programmes and performance targets that support delivery of agreed outputs and achievement of MBIE outcomes.

- A passion to lead and mentor a team of professionals that provides strategic and operational advice across an organisation
- Experience in creating a positive work environment where people can succeed and develop
- A highly regarded and well-respected legal practitioner with a high level of expertise in relevant areas of law
- A reputation of exceptional customer service with experience in developing and maintaining effective working relationships at all levels
- Flexibility to adapt and deliver successful outcomes in a fast-moving and demanding environment
- Well-developed written and verbal communication skills, which allow you to convey key ideas and issues in a way that is suitable to the audience
- Cultural awareness and sensitivity with knowledge and experience or a willingness to develop understanding of Māori practices; tikanga, te reo and Te Tiriti and the Treaty of Waitangi Principles
- A tertiary qualification in law and current practising certificate
- Must have legal right to live and work in NZ
