We have a great opportunity for a Kaitohu Matua (Senior Advisor) who has energy, initiative and is ready to step into a role to lead and support policy advice on the achievement of wellbeing and development outcomes for whānau, hapū, iwi, Māori organisations, and communities within the Tamaki Makaurau (Auckland) region

As Kaitohu Matua (Senior Advisor) you will champion whānau led solutions that will enable better outcomes for Māori and will work alongside the Tamaki Makaurau region by:

  1. Supporting the region to deliver on the work programme
  2. Supporting the Regional Director and Team Leader to build a strong presence for Te Puni Kōkiri in the region to support the implementation of Government policies
  3. Providing mentoring and coaching to Advisors within the region
  4. Managing the flow of information between Māori and the Policy puni for programme evaluation
  5. Managing local level provider contracts including reporting and funding approvals

The midpoint of this role is $115,743 per annum and the salary will be determined based on the successful candidate's skills and experience.

Ko wai koe | About you

To be successful in this role you:

  1. Have experience working in policy.
  2. Have experience working with whānau, hapū, iwi, Māori organisations and communities.
  3. Have a high level of understanding of the Machinery of Government, public service and public sector processes.
  4. Understand the rationale and mechanisms of government intervention i.e. reasons for government intervention, the available intervention mechanisms and alternatives to government interventions.
  5. Have commercial experience with keen analytical skills and the ability to identify and support possible growth opportunities.
  6. Have the ability to identify, build and actively manage significant relationships, valuing diverse perspectives and experiences.
  7. Are comfortable working in a te ao Māori environment and are comfortable in a kaupapa Māori environment.
  8. Have a broad understanding of The Treaty of Waitangi and Te Tiriti ō Waitangi and recognise the importance of the Treaty from both Māori and Crown perspectives.
  9. Have a level of competency in te reo Māori, or a willingness to learn.
