What are we looking for?
The YWRC now seeks applications for the role of Education Coordinator (0.8 FTE – 32 hours per week). This role will be based in Hamilton and is responsible for delivering employment relations education to young people at secondary schools, tertiary institutions, and community organisations around the Waikato, Bay of Plenty, and Central North Island. We're on the lookout for engaged and passionate individuals ready to roll up their sleeves and get to work.
This is a permanent position with the ideal start date being Wednesday, 2 April 2025.
Who is Young Workers Resource Centre (YWRC)?
In Aotearoa, young workers face a challenging and precarious labor market, often unaware of their rights. At the YWRC, we are a not for profit, Living Wage Employer dedicated to changing that Through engaging workshops and providing guidance and representation, we empower rangatahi aged 15-35 with the knowledge they need to navigate their employment relationships confidently.

With over 30 years of experience, our youth-led organization promotes education from a pro-union perspective, leading to proactive behaviors that improve workplace culture, productivity, and overall well-being. We're on a mission to combat the exploitation of young workers by providing essential resources, guidance and support, as well as educating youth about the importance of union membership.
Ideal Candidate Specifications:
- Passion for supporting young people to have positive employment outcomes.
- Cultural humility, an understanding of the purpose of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, respecting the importance of it as a founding document of Aotearoa, and a willingness to contribute to decolonisation.
- Well-developed interpersonal skills, and an ability to relate to people from diverse backgrounds.
- An ability to connect and communicate with youth in a meaningful and respectful manner.
- Well-developed written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to navigate computer systems with ease.
- Ability to work autonomously, off-site, and with self-management and organisational skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a small close-knit team, to multi-task and respond quickly and effectively to requests.
- Adaptable/flexible where appropriate and able, to meet organisation needs.
- Holding a Restricted/Full driver's license with access to a vehicle.
- Clean police vetting check (to comply with the Vulnerable Children's Act).
- Some experience of teaching, education, youth development/leadership, sports, or health education.
- A commitment to promoting employment relations education.
Ideal, but not required specifications.
- Strong digital content creation skills and familiarity with content creation applications.
- Some knowledge of employment legislation and how it relates to youth.
- Adaptability to different environments, particularly relating to workshops.
