About the Role

Peer support is based on the concept that people who have had a lived experience of mental health difficulties in their teen years, and have experienced recovery, can instil hope by providing support and demonstrating recovery to others.

You have the opportunity to support rangatahi and whānau who utilise Te Roopu Kimiora (Child and Adolescent Mental Health and Addiction) services.

In the role you can expect to work as part of a team to directly support young people on their path to recovery and bring a youth voice to service development.

The peer support worker will also contribute to service development by having a strong lived experience voice during times of multi-disciplinary consultation meetings and service development projects.

About the Team/Service/Location

This team provides acute and community services for children and young people (up to 19 years) who have significant mental health, alcohol and other drug concerns. The service includes assessment, therapeutic intervention from key workers, psychologists, and psychiatry.

About you

Essential skills and experience you will bring to this role are:

  • Respects others' cultures and values
  • Consistent and thorough approach to work
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Qualification(s) and/or training in community and peer support work or commitment to undertake this training
  • Personal experience of mental health or addiction difficulties that has altered life courses, and of resiliency/recovery
  • Identifies as a young person
