The role / Te mahi

We are seeking a highly motivated Assistant Research Fellow to join our team. The successful candidate will provide research support and assistance for the Collaboration of Ageing Research Excellence Theme (CARE) and support our ageing in place co-design research.

In this role, you'll manage research projects, conduct literature reviews, facilitate workshops, and assist with data collection. You'll also coordinate events, oversee communications (including website and newsletters), and support funding applications. Strong organizational, research, and communication skills are essential.

The successful candidate will have expertise in qualitative research in any field of social science or science, with an interest in ageing.

Key tasks include:

  1. Lead the Ageing in Place Ōtepoti research project, funded by the Health Research Council, ensuring effective management and progress.
  2. Conduct in-depth literature reviews on co-design and ageing in place research to inform best practices.
  3. Strengthen CARE's engagement with the ageing community, supporting its mission and strategic objectives.
  4. Assist in planning and coordinating the New Zealand Association of Gerontologists 2025 Conference to ensure a successful event.
  5. Identify and apply for small grants to secure funding opportunities that support CARE's initiatives.

Successful candidates will also:

  1. Have a Master's degree in a relevant field.
  2. Have proven experience in qualitative data collection and analysis.
  3. A background in grant writing and securing research funding.
  4. Experience in academic writing, including literature reviews and research publications.
  5. Demonstrated ability to engage with communities and foster meaningful connections.

This is a part-time (0.6 FTE), fixed-term (until 31 March 2026) position, located in Dunedin.

The appointment range for this role is $60,383 to $81,280 per annum (pro rata).
