Job Description - Radiologist (HAU01684)

Radiologists at Te Whatu Ora Tairāwhiti make a difference in a small community, staff a modern radiology department, see unbelievable pathology, value quality over profits, and have a great work-life balance.

The radiology service at Te Whatu Ora Tairāwhiti is a small, dynamic team looking to employ a suitably qualified Radiologist. This role will work collaboratively and cohesively with the radiology team to provide effective services for the Tairāwhiti region.

Applicants are expected to have a general scope of radiologist skills including ultrasound, MRI, and CT. The Department is hospital-based and provides a mix of inpatient, emergency, and outpatient imaging for a community of approximately 47,000 people. Time is split with 70% clinical responsibilities and 30% non-clinical. It is expected that you will also participate in the on-call roster which is currently an 'at home call' one in four nights.

Day-to-day responsibilities include:

  1. Interpreting exams
  2. Triaging and protocoling imaging requests
  3. Consulting with referring clinicians
  4. Supporting the radiology technology staff

Light intervention and mammography are optional. There are opportunities to teach local medical and surgical house officers as well as radiology registrars within the Midlands Region.

We are looking to receive applications from people who are keen to work in partnership with our Head of Department and other team members to develop new imaging services and work on continuous improvement within our Radiology Department.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to be part of a new era at Gisborne Hospital with the commencement of a state-of-the-art medical imaging research centre based at the hospital. The Mātai Medical Research Institute centre focuses on mild traumatic brain injury, among other things, and could make Gisborne a world-leading centre in MRI.

To be successful, you must have the following Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ) Vocational registration in the Scope of Practice of Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology or be an overseas-trained Radiologist eligible for MCNZ registration under the Special Scope of Practice Locum Tenens category.
