Mercer is currently looking for candidates to join their expanding Legal, Risk & Compliance team in either Auckland or Wellington for the role of Legal Counsel – Investments/Financial Services.

Expectations: This is a fantastic opportunity for lawyers interested in transitioning in-house or in-house lawyers wanting to be part of a leading global professional services firm. You will work alongside an experienced Legal, Risk & Compliance team, reporting to the Chief Wealth Counsel based in Wellington, and have the option for flexible hybrid working arrangements.

Responsibilities: The chosen candidate will offer advice to the Wealth business on a range of corporate, commercial, and financial services legal matters. This includes preparing and reviewing agreements, providing guidance on financial services regulations, and changes.

The ideal candidate should have expertise in advising on retail and wholesale investment products and distribution, scheme administration, FMCA, and related regulations concerning Managed Investment Scheme Manager and Financial Advice Provider Licenses. Collaboration with Risk & Compliance colleagues and offering assistance to the Wealth business and Chief Wealth Counsel is essential. There is also room to expand expertise within Marsh and Marsh McLennan.

Qualifications: Candidates must hold a minimum of 3 years of post-qualification experience with a current practicing certificate or the ability to acquire one. Preferably, candidates should possess experience in investments, including knowledge of FMCA, related regulations, and trust law. However, experience in financial services, corporate, or banking in a law firm or corporate setting will also be taken into consideration.
