Lead the School of Social Sciences and Humanities at AUT, driving growth, innovation, and academic excellence.

The successful candidate will provide academic, administrative, and people leadership to approximately 34 academic staff, focussed on educating 740 students and providing research with impact. Key focus areas will include:

  • Championing equity and inclusivity, embracing AUT's Te Aronui framework and supporting staff as the School and AUT works towards becoming a Te Tiriti o Waitangi-led organisation.
  • Providing leadership and direction for the School of Social Sciences and Humanities.
  • Fostering relationships with industry partners and stakeholders to ensure curriculum relevance and career opportunities.
  • Leading, mentoring, and motivating academic and administrative staff to achieve school objectives.
  • Overseeing budgeting, resource allocation, and efficient school operations.
  • Driving greater cross-disciplinary collaboration with other areas and disciplines of the Faculty and University.
  • Enhancing the sense of community and collaboration amongst staff.

The ideal candidate will be a Professor (or Associate Professor of high standing) with experience leading an academic department or school, and academic discipline expertise within social sciences or humanities. They will be a culturally capable leader who champions inclusivity and diversity, and is committed to creativity and innovation.

Key Selection Criteria:

  • A record of academic achievement (or equivalent) suitable for appointment as a professor (preferably) or an associate professor.
  • Discipline expertise within social sciences or humanities.
  • Direct academic staff management experience, such as leading a programme, department or school.
  • Demonstrated development of significant industry and community connections and partnerships.
  • Significant experience leading strategic change.
