We have a permanent full-time opportunity for a Senior Technician to join our Wellington Forensic Service Centre, based at our Kenepuru Science Centre in Porirua.

You will provide technical assistance to Forensic Case Managers in the examination of items or samples for forensic evidence, as well as participating in a roster to deliver a 24/7 crime scene capability.

You'll also undertake general laboratory maintenance duties, including solution and reagent preparation, and equipment maintenance and calibration. Working with a well-oiled team, you may also provide support with case receipt, specimen handling, storage, and management.
This is an opportunity to learn about our Forensic Business Group and develop an understanding of our customers needs.
Kia angitu koe | About you
To be successful in this role, you will have a mix of the following:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in science,
  • A full NZ Drivers Licence,
  • Knowledge of safe laboratory practices and biological and chemical hazards,
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills,
  • Computer literacy, especially Microsoft Word and Excel,
  • Initiative, flexibility, and a willingness to support the wider team.
Experience or technical knowledge of forensic laboratory work would be desirable, but not essential.
