Having recognised the need to make improvements in how we regulate and administer the Arms Act Police have been on a multi-year change journey.

Changes to the Arms Act, a review of the 2019 firearms buy-back by the Office of the Auditor General and recommendations from the Royal Commission of Inquiry after the attacks in Christchurch on 15 March 2019 have all contributed to understanding our pathway going forward.

You will have a focus on applicants for a firearms licence and existing firearms licence holders for them to easily understand what they need to do to comply with the Arms Act and Arms Regulations, and reducing regulatory failures or non-compliance and reducing offending and victimisation among Māori within geographic areas across New Zealand.

You will model effective leadership that is both innovative and visionary, and bring people together, building and unifying with purpose and shared goals within Arms Safety and Control teams, with key partners such as Police, other government agencies, non-government agencies and communities across New Zealand.

You will strengthening connections by open communication and transparency, your leadership style will be one of inclusiveness.
