The purpose of the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) group is to work in partnership with the rest of the organisation to provide digital technology and communication solutions that support excellence in policing and service delivery and enable Police’s strategic ambitions
With a primary hub in Wellington, and a presence throughout the country, we deliver new and enhanced solutions directly and through specialist vendor partnerships. We provide expert advice on how technology can be leveraged to support Police’s strategies and turn concepts into reality through collaborative development.
The Product Manager is accountable for identifying the needs of the customers, and the strategies on how a group of products will fulfil those needs to ensure that the products assigned to them are being managed and maintained in the right way. They will track key performance indicators to measure the success of the products, including user engagement and customer satisfaction. They use this data to identify areas for improvement and make data-driven decisions about future product development.
The Product Manager will engage and build trust with Police Senior Leadership and Product Business Sponsors and their delegates to understand their current and emerging requirements, as well as how future technical plans for the products coincide with demands received from the business. They will lead a team of Technical Product Owners who manage the delivery of maintenance/sustainment, break/fix and enhancements utilising a predominately flow to work team assigned from the Centres of Expertise.
The Product Manager is responsible for creating and maintaining the Product Roadmaps in line with enterprise architectural guidelines that balance Police’s competing demands to Keep The Lights On and implement the growth requirements of products. Roadmaps will outline the key features and milestones for the product and the priority features based on customer feedback, market trends and business goals.
The Product Manager - Service and Operational Support Group is a member of the wider Operational Products Group and will work closely with the Director and other Product Managers across the Group.
The Service and Operational Support Group provides the key enablers for operational and service centres. It contains products that support collaboration between agencies, support road policing, vetting, referrals, and operational workflow.
Key Accountabilities:
- Foster a safe and supportive team culture.
- Create and maintain a long-term product vision and roadmap that aligns with business objectives for the service and operational support products.
- Collaborate with other Product Managers and other ICT stakeholders (e.g., Architecture) to ensure that strategic planning is aligned with the wider ICT landscape.
- Connect into the demand management process and champion the quarterly planning function as a way of improving delivery.
- Report on success criteria and delivery with the Technical Product Owners and other delivery leads.
- Work closely with teams across the organisation to ensure that all parties are aligned on the product vision and goals
- Be responsible for the day-to-day decision making related to the product development, nurturing shared understanding in the product teams, and consulting with stakeholders

- Relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent job-related experience.
- Sufficient knowledge of the business domain area of the product.
- Proven strategic and conceptual thinking capability. Proven experience in leading, influencing and building credibility across a range of stakeholders.
- Proven ability to translate business and customer needs into product roadmaps with experience operating as a Product Manager or Owner (Technical or Business).
- A passion for engaging with customers to get deeper understanding of opportunities and to guide decision making.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
