The role:


Located in Christchurch, the Project Engagement Lead will work to build strong, positive external engagement across Orion's stakeholders for major network projects through the seamless execution of strategic and tactical communications and engagement initiatives throughout the lifecycle of key projects.

This role will report directly to the Community and Engagement Lead and work collaboratively within a highly motivated team.

You will:
  • Develop, lead and execute on Orion's external project engagement and communications strategy
  • Seek out opportunities within Orion to ensure our stakeholders and community are considered in network project planning and delivery
  • Build credible relationships quickly and be comfortable in the field nurturing a range of relationships at all levels from stakeholders, communities, and contractors through to elected members
  • Be able to assess project impacts on communities and use your initiative to ask the right questions and uncover the detail
  • Minimise disruption caused by network projects, through proactively liaising with contractors, stakeholders, and the community.
  • Have high emotional intelligence and be able to resolve conflicts and mediate discussions to ensure major network projects can be delivered effectively
  • Generate and manage project communications and deploy these through the right mediums, including the use of digital channels and content creation

You will:
  • Genuinely want to be the voice of the community. You will enjoy getting into the field to really understand your stakeholders' challenges and build great relationships
  • Use your experience with stakeholder identification, analysis and engagement strategies, to achieve positive outcomes and experiences
  • Have experience as a wellrounded, pragmatic, and resilient communication professional, writing across a range of more formal and contemporary media styles
  • Have experience dealing with conflict and be able to deploy effective strategies to achieve positive outcomes
  • The desire to be a true team player who enjoys working collaboratively and wants to be part of a team that is output focused, but equally will take the time to build great relationships while having fun along the way
  • An understanding of the New Zealand Regulatory environment as it applies to the electricity industry would be an advantage
  • Have a relevant tertiary degree (Bachelor of Communications/PR/ Marketing) or equivalent experience
