He kōrero mō te tūranga | The Role

Bring your full self to work as a Youth Support Worker You'll provide wrap-around support to Rangatahi which could be in a hands-on capacity in a service that has a whanau orientated framework.

You'll support with medication management and helping Rangatahi to be autonomous in themselves.

You'll be resilient in nature and comfortable with being flexible in the changing routines and needs of the Rangatahi in your care.


You'll be part of a supportive team with a manager who cares and wants to see you thrive in your role.

An on-call Manager will be available to you for support during rostered hours. You'll need to have a good level of computer skills to record notes and hand-over information.


This is a permanent part-time position working on any days of the week between the hours of 7.00am-3.30pm & 2.30pm-11.00pm.


Your duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Establish a rapport with Rangatahi and their whanau.
  • Provide day to day support in alignment with their goals and support plans including risk management plans and Safety Plans.
  • Work with Rangatahi to identify significant goals. Provide encouragement and support them to achieve their goals.
  • Attend and contribute to team meetings, bringing ideas and updating others on their activities.
  • Ensure all incidents are documented appropriately.

He kōrero mōu | About You:

As youth can potentially only be with us for 2-3 days at a time, you'll need to have the ability to build relationships quickly in a genuine manner and have a passion to see youth succeed.

You'll also have an eye for spotting changes to behaviour and be able to respond appropriately to crisis situations.

You'll contribute to maintaining a safe working environment and create safe, calm, and nurturing spaces for whānau. Communication skills and a strong cultural competency are vital for this role.

To be successful in this role, you'll ideally have the following:

  • A
    Level 4 (or higher) qualification in Mental Health and Addiction or be working towards one.
  • Good level of computer skills to record notes and handover information.
  • Previous experience within the mental health and/or addiction sector
  • A Full New Zealand Driving License.
  • Flexibility in the hours you can work (with notice), as you will occasionally be required to work outside of your normal hours.
  • Experience of onetoone support within the community is preferred but not essential.
  • Strong understanding of Māori and Pacifica cultures is preferred.
