Mō tēnei tūranga | About this role

This role provides HR and people-related support to schools and kura, to assist them with current and future workforce challenges.

It collaborates with other teams in the Ministry to develop and implement initiatives for the education sector.

As an Ohumahi Support Advisor, you'll:

  • Respond to incoming queries and requests from schools and kura in relation to the implementation of the Ministry's people-related projects and initiatives
  • Assist the Ohumahi Support team to identify themes and trends in the queries and guidance being requested from school and kura
  • Provide exceptional service and support to schools and kura; providing accurate and clear responses with a humancentred, personable approach
  • Establish and maintain strong working relationships with key stakeholders

Mōhou ake | About you

To be successful in this role you'll be able to work effectively with a variety of internal and external stakeholders to ensure they get the support that they need.

We are seeking someone who is competent, organised and flexible.

You'll bring a very strong customer service focus and the ability to develop and manage trusted relationships with a broad range of people, including Māori and Pacific peoples.

- has HR or ER advisory experience, particularly in a unionised work environment.
- loves systems and is great at using and improving technology to support efficient work processes.
- is passionate about communicating effectively and supporting customers to find solutions to their problems and questions.
- has some conversational level Te Reo Māori and an understanding of Tikanga and Mātauranga Māori (or keen desire to learn).


To be appointed into one of the Senior Advisor roles, we will be looking for 5+ years' experience in HR or ER.

You will demonstrate knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an understanding of Te Ao Māori and promote tikanga and Te Reo Māori.

You will also have knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an appreciation of te Tiriti o Waitangi (the Treaty of Waitangi) as it applies in the public
Mātau rōpū ake | About our ministry, group, and team

At Te Tāhuhu o te Mātauranga, we work to provide services and support nationally, regionally and locally to the education sector, and in some cases, directly to ākonga and whanau.

To better deliver on this, we are currently undergoing an organisational design change. The transition phase to improve the way we deliver our purpose will be complete in 2023.
