Manukau, Auckland, New Zealand New Zealand Government Full time
Report Directly into the National Director, Commissioning

  • Provide rangatiratanga leadership to local commissioning teams
  • Remove barriers and shine the light on possible paths forward for our people
Ko wai mātou | Our Organisation
It's not very often something happens that's big; like, really big. Big to the point that it will touch the lives of every single person in the motu. That's what we're talking about here.

The provision of health services in Aotearoa, and how they are delivered, is about to change in a big way.

Te Whatu Ora-Health New Zealand and Te Aka Whai Ora-Māori Health Authority will together shape the delivery of health services in Aotearoa for generations to come and will form the core of a modern and integrated service looking after the needs of all our whānau.

Te Whatu Ora is 'the weaving of wellness'. Whatu is the combining together of people, resources, organisations, thoughts and actions for the betterment and wellbeing of all.

Whatu is also a direct reference to the pupil of the eye, and the vision required of the new entity and system.

Join us in this mahi...
Te whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity

Te Whatu Ora is seeking a Northern Regional Wayfinder to join our three existing Regional Wayfinders (Te Manawa Taki, Central or Southern).

The work of the Commissioning Team is fundamental to achieving the vision of Pae Ora.

The Commissioning function is directly responsible for planning and funding community-based public services and is heavily involved in the planning and shaping of all public health services across the motu.

The Commissioning Team is responsible for building, maintaining and continuously improving robust planning and decision-making processes that give voice to communities and whānau and enable the health system to deliver what matters to communities and whānau across the motu.

The Commissioning Team does not work in a hierarchical structure nor is it based on concepts of 'management' of direct reports.

Instead, delegation of authority protocols and concepts of self-management, teamwork, partnership and values-based decision-making guide our work.

In the spirit of rangatiratanga, leaders in the commissioning team are expected to serve those in their teams and actively support all team members to maintain a steadfast focus on communities and whānau as partners and decision-makers in control of their own health outcomes.

As a Regional Wayfinder | Commissioning, you will be responsible for providing rangatiratanga leadership to multiple locally-based Commissioning teams across the Northern Region in order to ensure that locality teams are able to support local communities and whānau in the pursuit of Pae Ora.

The job of the Commissioning Wayfinder is to find a way through, to remove barriers and to shine the light on possible paths forward.

Commissioning Wayfinders are custodians of the Pae Ora vision and the holders of regional relationships.

Commissioning Wayfinders proactively engage with the widest possible range of whānau, community and provider stakeholders and ensure locality teams do the same.

As a Regional Wayfinders you are expected to exemplify whanaungatanga, supporting one another as one of several teams to which you belong.

The Regional Wayfinders | Commissioning are expected to be:

Locally focused - supporting and clearing the way for their regional teams to succeed;
Regionally responsible - nurturing relationships that span across multiple localities to ensure Te Whatu Ora is easy and efficient to engage with from a regional provider and regional stakeholder point of view, and similarly assisting in the design of systems that span beyond individual localities to ensure effectiveness and efficiency of regional health services; and
Nationally contributing - bringing regional and local intelligence into national conversations and service design.

Important:

You will need to be based in the Northern Region to carry out this role, and ideally have a deep connection to this region.

Substantial travel around the region and motu will be required.
Mōu | About you

You will be a team player, able to work flexibly in a complex, fast-paced environment, exercising professional judgement to achieve both community-led and nationally directed goals.

Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience
