Mō te Tūranga | About the Role


Reporting to the Head of ESG Advisory, you will be an integral member of the ESG Advisory Team who combine knowledge of ESG impacts, the evolving legal and regulatory framework that financial institutions and their customers must face into, providing insights and support, whilst being sensitive to the commercial industry pressures this change brings.


Key responsibilities include:

- centralising ESG expertise, providing training, tools and resources, and specialist support across IBB, with a strong focus on Agribusiness bankers and their customers.
- working alongside the Sustainability, Transformation Office, Learning and Development and Risk teams to lead risk management and disclosure reporting and build capability, as WNZL faces into new regulations and other ESG related commitments e.g. mandatory climate
- related disclosures
- driving the development and implementation of Net Zero targets for the Agricultural sectors, including the integration of ESG data into the management of customer relationships and portfolio
- being proactive in facilitating smooth transitions into evolving ESG-related obligations and commitments and also reactive in responding to front line requests for specialist knowledge, training or analysis.


A key thought leadership role will be played by the team, and this role, as WNZL seeks to support its customers navigate a fast-evolving legislative environment and increasing stakeholder expectations.


Nā tāu rourou | What will you bring?

  • An appropriate tertiary qualification, ideally agriculture based.
  • 3 plus years working knowledge of ESG issues combined with 8 plus years of indepth knowledge of the financial services industry, including working knowledge of key banking metrics and measurements
  • Strong understanding of key agri sectors, i.e., dairy, sheep & beef and horticulture, ideally from experience gained working in the industry
  • Strong knowledge of climate change and other critical ESG issues for the agricultural sector, including social, animal welfare and biodiversity and ability to field questions from customerfacing teams
  • Awareness of existing and incoming regulatory frameworks in NZ and globally, particularly on emissions pricing, freshwater quality and modern slavery
  • Ability to work with complex reporting and analytics systems
  • Ability to communicate complex information in a way which is useful to the audience and ability to field
  • Ability to manage and build relationships with internal and external stakeholders, in particular across the agricultural sector
