At Mott MacDonald we perform a wide range of services in the conventional and pumped storage hydropower sectors, and we are now looking for two electro-mechanical specialists to fill a Senior and Principal - Hydropower and Pumped Storage role, working alongside our electro-mechanical and civil engineering teams, and reporting to the Technical Director Hydropower.

Our Technical Director Hydropower is a globally recognised expert in Mott MacDonald group and works on international projects including:

  • The Lake Onslow option of the New Zealand Battery Project.
  • White Pine Pumped Storage project, USA.
  • Central West Pumped Storage project, Australia.
  • Karot Hydropower project, Pakistan.
  • Tarbela 5th Extension Hydropower project, Pakistan.


You will have the opportunity to learn from one of Mott MacDonald's global experts and work alongside them on many of these projects.


  • As a Senior or Principal in the hydropower sector, you will be assisting multidisciplinary design teams to produce innovative and integrated designs that meet our client's requirements and are value for money, futureproof and sustainable.
  • Whilst you work as part of a team you will be organising, planning, and managing your own projects and work activities. Our technical specialists work together to provide integrated solutions to the highest standards across engineering, climate resilience, environmental and social sustainability. As a company, our focus is on achieving positive social outcomes in everything we do.
  • The job will primarily be focused on hydropower and pump storage, as part of the wider energy business there will also be opportunities to work on other renewable technologies from time to time. Indeed flexibility and adaptability are important aspects of the role, to meet the varying needs of the business.
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical, mechanical, or similar engineering.
  • 510 years or more experience in Pumped Storage and Hydropower Projects.
  • Relevant Project Management and technical/design management experience.
  • Chartered Engineer (preferred).
