The New Zealand Police ICT Test Practice is seeking a dynamic and self-motivated Team Leader to inspire and develop the salaried test analysts in their high performing Test Practice.

The Test Practice is part of Corporate Operations which operate from the Royal NZ Police College (RNZPC) in Porirua.


In this role you'll be reporting to the Manager Test Practice and working alongside our current Team Leader ensuring our people are enabled and empowered under the Police High Performance Framework to support NZ Police technology delivery.


Key Accountabilities:

  • Lead the test planning and execution, organisation and control of testing activities.
  • Ensure the quality of testing artefacts, E.g., regression and test automation artefacts.
  • Cultivate an environment in which your team can thrive.
  • Invest in the development of our people through coaching and mentoring.
  • Have a growth mindset that includes a huge appetite for learning.
  • Be great at developing testing approaches based on risk.
  • Be strong on partnering and collaborating with others to include business stakeholders, our strategic partners and other organisations.
  • Provide leadership and oversight for the testing of some of our key platforms.
  • Support junior testers within your project to allow them to develop their craft.

Key experience required for the role includes:

  • Proven test leadership skills. The ability to plan, lead, organise and control testing, using appropriate testing tools and techniques and conforming to agreed process standards.
  • People management experience including the ability to manage conflict and address behaviours that do not align with our values.
  • The ability to build positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Considerable knowledge and experience of the System Development Life Cycle (SDLC), various types of testing methodologies and testing levels.
  • Knowledge of testing methodologies and use of associated tools.
  • An understanding of test automation and how this benefits testing outcomes.
  • A strong understanding of testing best practices and a commitment to continuous improvement.
  • A good understanding of defect management and release management.
  • ISTQB foundation or equivalent certification is preferred.


This role is set at Team Leader/Manager level, this means your key purpose is "to lead the activities for Our Business and enable people to deliver them.
