About the role

NZQA is looking for a Practice Lead Data Science who can assist NZQA in its adoption of contemporary data science methods to answer key business questions.

You will work closely with various teams across the organisation on prioritised data science and data analysis initiatives.

You will also have opportunities to use your data science skills to support NZQA's focus of equity for Māori and Pacific learners.

The role sits within NZQA's Customer Experience and Analytics (CE&A) team and collaborates with other data teams as well as business units across the organisation.

The CE&A team is responsible for customer experience, design thinking, customer insights, contact centre, website and digital experience, organisational policies and processes, privacy information management and Data Science.

The breadth of this team's functions will provide this role with various opportunities to develop complimentary skills as well as long term career opportunities.

Skills and experience (person specifications)
You have all essential data science skills - mathematics, statistics and computer programming.

You would ideally have experience in the following data science capabilities:

  • Experience in analysing problems and theoretical understanding of algorithms for classification, regression, clustering, anomaly detection and other supervised and unsupervised learning methods
  • Expertise in programming language, like Python, that could be used to deliver endtoend data science solutions encompassing data wrangling, machine learning and data visualization.
  • Familiarity with database modelling, data warehousing principles, and proficiency in SQL relational databases and/or NoSQL databases.
  • Experience in building User-Interface components for BI, analytics and reporting using products such as Adobe Illustrator, XD, InDesign
  • Proficient in Exploratory Data Analysis (EDA) and Data Visualization skills using Power BI, Tableau, and/or Qlik.
  • Familiarity with big data technologies e

Spark, Hadoop, Hive.

  • Experience using AWS technologies such as SageMaker, S3, EC2, Redshift and data pipelines and scaling models into production using Docker containers
