About your new role


Selwyn District Council is on the lookout for a Principal Wastewater Engineer to join our esteemed Water Services Delivery team.


Situated within our Infrastructure and Property group, you'll use your expertise to spearhead the management of wastewater operational assets, lending crucial support to our expanding Water Services team.

In a district marked by rapid growth and development, you will play a pivotal role in propeling our vision forward.

As the linchpin of wastewater operations, you'll be confident in meeting stringent standards of service and compliance. Your new role demands a fusion of technical acumen and leadership skill, ensuring seamless execution amidst Selwyn's evolving landscape.

Alongside this, your days will include:

  • Ensuring Asset Management and Activity Management Plans are well implemented
  • Leading the development of district's Wastewater Management Plans
  • Management of Trade Waste inputs into the network to meet all operating parameters and regulatory consent conditions
  • Providing service delivery advice and input to inform key resources on relevant issues to internal and external stakeholders
  • Providing mentorship, coaching and leadership of the Wastewater Team and support engineers

About you


Being an excellent communicator, you are someone who can relate well to a wide range of people, able to use your initiative and work independently.

You can easily demonstrate the ability to make rational judgements and provide workable solutions to a range of problems.

_ The foundation of your role will be:_

  • Extensive experience (10+ years) in leading similarly sized functional area in a large multidisciplinary and complex organisation
  • Significant demonstrable experience working with wastewater infrastructure assets, including design, commissioning, and operation of wastewater assets
  • Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) or Environmental related degree
  • Asset and Project Management skills
  • Expert knowledge being able to analyse numerical and verbal data and all other sources of information
  • Ability to communicate clearly and appropriately for a range of audiences and adapt style accordingly
