OUR CLIENT:

Our client's specialized storage division, renowned for blast freezing and chilled storage across New Zealand, complements their full-service cold storage logistics. They safely transport chilled and frozen products nationwide by road, rail, or sea, with ambient storage available at selected depots. With daily operations and a network hub facilitating freight movement, they ensure compliance with food safety standards and offer flexibility for any load size. From Auckland to Invercargill, our client provides the only end-to-end solution in New Zealand, integrating intermodal operations, chilled and frozen transport, and storage, along with cross-docking and distribution services.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:

The Distribution Centre Manager is accountable for their designated site, ensuring it fulfills all financial objectives, adheres to health and safety standards, meets human resource needs such as recruitment, upholds quality assurance, complies with regulations, passes MPI audits, and satisfies contracted customer requirements, including performance goals and ongoing enhancements.

Additionally, they will actively engage in improvement projects within the warehousing division, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to drive continuous enhancements and achieve specified goals.

Key Responsibilities:

FUNCTION RESPONSIBILITY
  • Adhere to safety, regulatory, and compliance programs to safeguard employees, suppliers, contractors, and customers.
  • Meet all P&L objectives, including cost management.
  • Ensure site workload objectives are met with a skilled team in place.
  • Fulfil all customer contracts and achieve agreed KPIs.
  • Approach challenges with solutions, maintain strong communication, and uphold compliance at all levels.
  • Accurately document all site accidents, near misses, and safety observations.
  • Maintain professional communication with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Foster high engagement across the organization.
H&S COMPLIANCE, COMPLIANCE, AND RISK MANAGEMENT
  • Ensure compliance with all RMP requirements.
  • Aid in implementing company-wide policies and procedures to uphold Health and Safety standards.
  • Conduct H&S investigations within specified timeframes.
  • Collaborate with site manager and HS Representatives for Health & Safety onboarding.
  • Monitor technical training and maintain training records.
  • Ensure trucks and containers meet loading and unloading requirements.
  • Ensure all team members wear proper PPE.
INVENTORY MANAGEMENT
  • Oversee inventory handling process to maintain controls and accuracy in the Warehouse Management system.
  • Ensure all inventory operations meet specified KPIs.
CUSTOMER MANAGEMENT
  • Establish clear objectives, contracts, and invoicing for new customers.
    • Maintain high levels of customer support and address any required negotiations promptly.
  • Ensure all customer requirements align with contracts and review cost vs revenue for any changes.
SITE MANAGEMENT
  • Maintain refrigeration plant and facility standards.
  • Conduct regular machinery checks and report damages promptly.
  • Ensure all team members are trained and maintain necessary temperature requirements.
  • Manage costs, including overtime and temp labour.
CONTAINER MANAGEMENT
  • Adhere to Transitional facility requirements for containers.
  • Manage container bookings and compliance throughout the process.
PEOPLE LEADERSHIP
  • Promote a safe and healthy workplace.
  • Provide clear expectations and support for team members.
  • Address performance issues promptly and collaborate with HR when necessary.
ABOUT YOU
  • Minimum of 3+ years of experience managing large teams in the logistics industry
  • Knowledge and understanding of a P&L
  • Excellent communication skills: polite, respectful, confident, knowledgeable.
  • Well-presented, clean, tidy, dedicated, honest, trustworthy.
  • Maintains confidentiality regarding customer and employer affairs.
  • Self-manages with high motivation and hands-on approach.
  • Good understanding of perishable logistics
